Beginning July 14, Normandy American Cemetery instituted changes to traffic patterns at the site’s main parking lot as part of a larger effort to ensure the site’s approximately 16,000 daily summer visitors have a meaningful and stress-free experience.
To ease road congestion, crews replaced old pavement markers with new directional arrows to guide drivers along the new route. Staff also removed barriers, placed signage and trimmed landscaping to ensure clear visibility.
Changes to the traffic flow:
- Bus traffic and car/RV traffic now splits upon arrival
- Bus and RV parking have swapped from previous laydown
- All traffic now has more direct, intuitive access to exit.
The Normandy staff will continue to work on enhanced signage for traffic and pedestrian walkways approaching the cemetery as well as coordinating with local authorities to minimize impact on local traffic patterns during the Normandy region’s busiest season.
ABMC continues to collect and analyze visitor data to determine the most appropriate measures to ensure a meaningful, safe and respectful experience for all our guests. To find the latest information on changes to site access, visit the ABMC Cemetery Operational Status page on its website.
