6 sites added to vintage-style poster collection

The American Battle Monuments Commission released six new posters in its vintage-style poster collection in October – the Belleau Wood Monument and Naval Monument at Brest, in France; the Battle of the Bulge Monument in Belgium; the Naval Monument at Gibraltar; and in the U.S, the West Coast and East Coast memorials.

The posters join the original set of 31 created by French artist Doz in 2023 for the ABMC Centennial. The first set included ABMC’s 26 cemeteries and the monuments at Honolulu, Chateau-Thierry, Montfaucon, Montsec and Pointe du Hoc.

The ABMC project was originally inspired by the Works Progress Administration National Park posters created in the 1930s to promote its parks and landscapes.

The posters aren’t exact replicas of each ABMC site but put together different distinctive features, as each viewer and visitor to the sites interpret them differently, said Domitille Arnaud, ABMC Visitor Services and Interpretation project portfolio manager, in an earlier interview promoting the collection.

“We wanted these posters to represent the most symbolic and iconic elements of each site,” Arnaud said. “They convey the beauty, tranquility and solemnity of the place as a sign of respect for those who fought so that we can live free today.”

Printed and framed copies of the posters are available for purchase from ABMC’s partner organization, the American Battle Monuments Foundation.
