2024 Liberation Concert at Netherlands American Cemetery

Published August 28, 2024

On Sept. 12, at 7 p.m. CET, ABMC will host the South Netherlands Philharmonic for the 18th Liberation Concert at Netherlands American Cemetery to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of South Limburg.

The Liberation Concert started in 2006 with the aim is to perform and promote musical performances at Netherlands American Cemetery in Margraten, Netherlands, as a tribute to and a lasting memory of those who gave their lives while fighting to liberate Europe during World War II.

The 2024 Liberation Concert at Netherlands American Cemetery will be a modern/classical concert played by the Philharmonic Zuidnederland together with the Brabant Choir and accompanied by soloist Suzan Seegers.

The concert program will run as follows:

  • Pütz’s “Unknown Territory”
  • Butterworth’s “A Shropshire Lad”
  • Williams’ “Hymn to the Fallen”
  • Price’s Symphony No. 3, Second Movement
  • Kosma’s “Autumn Leaves”
  • Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, Fourth Movement
  • Lynn’s “We’ll Meet Again”

This year marks the 80th Anniversary of the Liberation of South Limburg and the launch of Operation Market Garden. Through that art of music and the emotions it conveys, the concert honors and remembers the courage, sacrifice and heroism of those who fought to free Europe from tyranny, echoing the monumental mission of the ABMC.

Please note that registration is free and required for all those wanting to attend this year’s event.

In addition, the Netherlands American Cemetery will close to visitors at 4 p.m. that day. Registered spectators will be allowed to access the cemetery for the concert after 5 p.m. For more information and to register, please visit: https://liberationconcert.nl/.
